October 7, 2022 — Artists do collaborations. They call them collabs now. I guess it takes too much time to say collaborations. Although, pretty much, they shorten all words now. Sometimes they stick an “s” on the end of a shortened word. Adorbs, for adorable; that’s the only one I really know. And to go all modern on y’all, I have to say, this collab will be adorbs!
Why, you ask?
Because of my girlies!
Taylor Swift is set to release a new album on October 21. It’s called Midnights. She has been revealing track list titles over the past couple of weeks. She has these short videos where she turns a hopper to get a number, 1 through 13, representing the number of tracks, then with each ball she pulls from the hopper she says the tack name of the song for the track number of the ball.
Last night she got to the last track. It was Track 4. The title is Snow on the Beach. And her video said the song is a collab with Lana Del Rey!
I suppose the reason behind the collab is that both Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey share a producer, Jack Antonoff. But honestly, I think a few of Taylor’s songs are influenced by Lana Del Rey. There are mashups on YouTube where people who like these influences have put Swift and Lana songs together. Mashups don’t work for me, but knowing the influences, I’ve always wondered if Taylor Swift would convince Lana to join her in a collab.
As for the fans’ reactions, the majority of Lana’s fans aren’t too keen on this collab. But Taylor’s fans love the idea. And since I’m a fan of both, I’m loving it. I want to hear who wrote what. I want to hear who starts the vocals. I want to know if they will sing together or separately. I want to know what the song will be like. And I really want to know what the snow is. Lana has had “beach” songs before. Thirteen Beaches comes to mind. And then there was High by the Beach. A tie to that one is scary, because … snow. But this is Taylor Swift, so probably snow here is something pretty. I’m hoping the snow reference is simply snow, the kind that falls from the sky. Because I can’t think of a winter-based song that Lana has done; she’s more summer, even if it’s Summertime Sadness, so winter will be good. A Lana-Taylor song for the winter. That sounds very pretty. And honestly, I love beaches so much more in the winter. I love wearing cold weather clothes. I love the sky in the winter. And I love it when there are no people — all the sea shells for me.
Also, I hope the song doesn’t leak earlier. I want to stay up until Midnight at the start of the 21st, and hear this surprise. It will be great! Music to look forward to! And I really, really, really, really am looking forward to this, like Christmas-winter-happy looking forward to it! Because my girlies together! No way! This one is definitely for me!
