East Texas Music

August 8, 2021 — East Texas is a thing. It is its own place. I know probably nobody here will ever go there. I know nobody here will ever want to go there. Or even if you did want to go there, you will still never go there. But the people from there, always go back, even if just for a moment every once in a while. I was just there, when I got my puppy. And I noticed something: that East Texas has a kind of music scene, or at least some graduates.

I’m going to get to a point, or I hope I will, but until then, I am going to feature some East Texas home-grown people, all of whom have something in common, the point I’ll get to after a few features. Some are famous, some not so much, but all are from the same little region where I was originally born. East Texas.

Here’s the first, Kadie Lynn. She’s a teen who was on America’s Got Talent a few years ago. She was 12 then, singing and playing guitar. Here’s an example of her from America’s Got Talent, and a couple of newer songs.

My thoughts? She’s young, but has a nice voice. Perhaps she’s not the greatest guitar player ever, but I do think her playing adds to her appeal. And I absolutely love her parents — older than the average first-time adopting parents, as her mother states. You gotta love the courage of those East Texas women. And I notice that same square-body pickup in the videos, and the grey-haired man; I think he’s her father, and I’d bet that’s his pickup. Plus I keep trying to figure out where the places are, but hey, most lakes look like that. It’s not as far east as my part of East Texas (because the trees are too small), so I’m thinking it might be Lake Tawakoni, not that that means anything to you all.

Anyway, I am going somewhere with this. More people to come.
