VH Loves NYC — NYC Loves VH

By: Jetblast190

Tonight The MIGHTY Van Halen got down to business and rocked the hell out of Jones Beach. From where I was standing (row 18, center stage), ’cause there was absolutely going to be no sitting, the show was absolute perfection!

Some quick highlights. I heard at least 11 patented DLR screams, saw at least 5 DLR high kicks, and 2 Flying Eddies! Fuckin’ A!!!

Let’s get down to some specifics…I’ll start with Dave. Dave loves NY, and it’s clear NY loves Dave. Dave was smokin’ hot tonight. He was the master of ceremony and led one hell of a party! Dave is the baddest 60 year old, 50, 40, 30, or 20 year old motherfucker on the stage! He rules every inch of it. Dave’s vocals were sharp and playful, a real treat and pleasure. Ice Cream Man was incredible. Dave talked about his love of NY, his Uncle Manny, and Cafe Wha? His story telling was heart felt and everyone I could see was listening intently.

The band. These guys are master musicians. Eddie, Wolf, and Alex don’t merely play their instruments…THEY DOMINATE THEM!

Eddie may be a resident of planet earth, but I am convinced that he is not from planet earth. I’m sure he would critique himself and point out a few mistakes, but I sure didn’t hear any. His solo spot is magic. It included the Little Guitars intro, Mean Street Intro, Eruption, Spanish Fly into Cathedral. The full heavy riff that leads into the conclusion of Eruption is FAT! Curious to know if it comes from Wolf’s new solo project?

Alex is the drum major holding it all together. I didn’t see anybody take a pee break during his drum solo. As technical as it is, what impressed me most is how musical it is…perhaps his best solo ever! Thoroughly enjoyable to watch and listen to.

Wolf is a monster. The bass work is as out front as his dad and uncle. Wolf’s and Eddie’s backing vocals were spot on! Highlights were Women In Love and In A Simple Rhyme. They nailed it! So did Dave!!!!!

From video, I thought that Dirty Movies was my favorite of this tour…now I’m 100% convinced! It couldn’t have been performed more perfectly. It’s the only one I videoed. Just awesome!

The fans. Jones Beach has a capacity of 15,000. It was packed to the rafters…every seat up to the last row. I could hear the audience singing for 2 straight hours. Feel Your Love Tonight was amazing…we were louder than the band. I lost my voice by the end of the 3rd song, Romeo Delight. Didn’t matter…I kept singing right along!

The night was epic, the band was MIGHTY!!!

Don’t miss this one, trust me!
