Snow Day 2.0

January 24, 2021 — Yep, the same headline. Why? Because it’s snowed yesterday! Okay, not at my house, but in Malibu. The mountains got tons of it too (which hopefully I’ll see from my land when I go there next time). And something called an atmospheric river is coming, lasting for many days next week. It’s very welcome! Rain!

Snow and Southern Californians. All of the news says people were stopping their cars to get out and play in it. Yep, that’s what we do. One time, on one of my trips from LA to Dallas, driving through Flagstaff, Arizona there was snow, and tens of cars stopped on the side of the road, all with California license plates. And no, they weren’t broken down; they were playing — dogs out, cameras out, basically people just sliding around in their shoes. I wanted to stop and tell them all to keep moving, but I didn’t. So, pretty much, I’m on the lookout for snow. This time, I think I would join in. Although, can’t you hear it now…. A warning from the mayor or the governor about snow being a super-spreader risk.

But snow isn’t all that I’m thinking about. I do have two things of music news.

Number one. I put my vintage stereo receiver and two speakers on top of the cabinet in the kitchen. And this weekend is party songs weekend on our rock station, so we have been rocking out! I haven’t done that in … a long time. You know, put the stereo on the radio, play the songs loud, and dance around, dance party, I call it. My new parakeet thought it was the best thing ever. I do think he has good taste; he loves the newish AC/DC song, Shot in the Dark. Then again, parakeets like to rock out, a good thing since the bumper music on the A.M. radio show he heard yesterday was blue grass, and that seemed to be his first love.

Number two. Ellie Goulding has a new song out. It’s a dance song (EDM), with old established EDM guys, Diplo being one part of the EDM duo called Silk City. It’s a fun song. I know, I know, not y’all’s thing, but I do think this one will make it on the pop radio. We’ll see what the parakeet thinks when I do dance-party to the stereo if the song does make it to radio. Plus, with the stereo back in action we will soon know if it will be rock, dance, or blue grass that stands the test of time for my parakeet’s taste. Only time will tell. Except you know what? Ellie looks like Dolly Parton here, so maybe, just maybe my parakeet will like the new Ellie Goulding song for that reason — Dolly Parton-dance-blue-grass-EDM. There you go!

Now, if I can just get back to practicing guitar. Wanting to turn the stereo on first thing when I wake up might just get me there. Or…

A real snow day! Yes, playing outside in the snow, then coming in to practice guitar. That sounds like a good day!

Come on, atmospheric river. Make it snow in my neighborhood!
