Roth Show: David Lee Roth Practices

The latest Roth Show still has David Lee Roth in Japan, and apparently taking a cue from his audience to only perform, this video features five-plus minutes of seamlessly spliced tape of David playing acoustic guitar and doing sword moves, the sword moves without the guitar, of course. The video claims it is accompanied by the Kabuki orchestra, although they appear to me to be seen and not heard. David seems to be enjoying himself here, and he looks very serene.  In fact, I think he looks serene any time he wears the outfit he has on here — a traditional sword dress. Oh and while I’m talking outfits, I think I’ll throw in some hair talk … David sports little bangs, and while I’m not normally a fan of bangs, they nicely soften his face. So nice bangs, David!

Seriously though, it is nice to see videos of people practicing. I like to watch anyone great practice. To me it makes their art, even them, more human, like they don’t just wake up and do great things. I like to watch practice just like I like to see a house half-constructed. I feel like from that, from watching practice, from seeing a half-constructed house, I can add my own imagination to what I would do with it, even create my own version of what I think the performance, the house, will become. So, personally, I thank him for sharing his moment of practice. He has made me want to practice too, because taking this full circle, nobody, not even the greats, wake up great. It’s all about the practice!
