Rainy Day Rap … by David Lee Roth

Not that this makes any sense, nor could you have convinced me a month ago that I’d be relaxing and messin’ around on the computer on a rainy day in … AUGUST, but that’s exactly what I’m doing. My subject of choice …  David Lee Roth. I happened upon this slightly older article, and thought I had to share. The subject? Influence, sort of, by David Lee Roth as the ultimate “gangsta” lyricist. You’ll have to read the article to see what I mean, but the premise, all while pointing out David’s talent at penning lyrics, is that David’s lyrics are as “gangsta” as those penned by rappers, all except for Dance the Night Away about which the author says “I love that song, but [that] shit is not gangsta.”  I’m going to have everyone screaming, rap sucks, and all of that, but the author gets one thing dead right: Van Halen II is amazing! So much attitude in that record, so much in those lyrics, so much so it makes you wonder… who exactly does David Lee Roth influence?
