September 16, 2018 — This week I happened upon a somewhat older video explaining technicalities of modern popular music and why music sounds so much the same. I think this video has good explanations of things like compression. It also credits the formula-songwriting of the handful of producers (this guy claims there are only two) that make much of pop music.
While I don’t fully agree because I do like some pop music, I find myself really, really tiring of every pop song having a rap breakdown. Indeed, many are just plain rap, and it’s invading everything. That’s the one thing this guy forgot to mention, but then again, perhaps he’s too busy listening to old music to fully notice.
Personally, I believe there is good music out there, but then again, I get a lot of it from places other than the radio.
See what you think of this guy’s analysis.
