February 2, 2020 – Yes, don’t get mad at me, but for me, Groundhog Day is a thing! Really, seriously, one of my favorites! But I know today is also that thing where people make it impossible to go grocery shopping the day before without getting a fight. Seriously, I was out of food and went actual shopping yesterday at 5:00 p.m. with a whole store full of people buying snacks and club soda. Don’t forget the club soda people. And apparently, it requires couples to shop for such things, and apparently couples need the entire isle, and by entire, I mean entire. And these couples had never seen a grocery store. It was the most interesting place for them. And don’t complain or you’ll get glared at, not by the women, but by the men. I called one an amateur, so I might have deserved the glare, but honestly, there’s a thing called staying on the right side of the isle. The food is not so interesting that one needs to look at it for five minutes straight in the middle of the isle where nobody can pass by. Oh and yes, I’m cranky, but honestly!
As far as the Superbowl goes, I’m rooting for the Chiefs. Why? Because I root for animals when in doubt, and that’s an animal. Yes, it is (I hear you questioning me); Chief is the name of my parakeet. So … go Chiefs.
I’m not really into it though, and I’m really not into the half-time performers – J. Lo and Shakira, right? I’m probably not even going to watch it, the game or the half-time show. I don’t know why, and I know it’ll likely be good, but I’m not in the mood. It might be that cranky thing, although honestly, I’m not feeling so cranky today.
Still, I want to make this story about musical things associated with football. So how about The Star Spangled Banner? At what I think was the last appearance of the Patriots for this season, the National Anthem was performed by the singer for the band The Rival Sons. It’s not often these days you get any rock performer anywhere near a football field, and honestly, it was a really classical performance on his part, classical with a touch of rock flair by means of a rocker jacket and sunglasses, a nice touch, I thought; plus I think it was a nice appearance by a rocker.
So with this, I say Happy Superbowl Sunday. Oh and hopefully none of you need to go grocery shopping. I tell you, unless you’re down to the ends of the refrigerator, don’t go! But whatever you do, enjoy this day! And for me? Happy Groundhog Day! Early Spring. That was the groundhog’s prediction!
