Halloween. I dare you to think of Halloween without remembering your first costume, your favorite costume, or that creepy woman who turned off her lights and hid behind her fence made of two barbed wires. Yes, that last one was a real place down the street of my family’s first, and very not-so-nice residence, in Calgary. My answer to the costume question is easy. My favorite costume was my angel costume. My mother made it. It consisted of a white cotton gown, gold foil wings and a gold halo. And a coat, a huge coat; we had to wear our coats as we went from house to house, or later from townhouse to townhouse, so the complexity of our costumes was limited. We would briefly open our coats to show people our costumes, but the angel? That halo is self-explanatory. I could stay all buttoned and zipped up and still be an angel. So, hands down, that was my best costume! The cool part is that rock stars have the same memories. Here’s my favorite rock star of late, Taylor Momsen, sitting for an interview with a nine-year old girl.
Taylor answers the question about her favorite Halloween memory, plus other important questions. And the cool part? Taylor tells the little girl that nine-year-old Taylor would have been friends with the nine-year-old interviewer just based on the coolness of the interviewer’s shoes. Hey, that’s almost outfits and hair!
So? What’s your favorite Halloween memory? Better yet, what was your favorite costume? What’s your kid’s best costume? And … what the heck should I dress as now? Taylor Momsen? No that was last year. Oh …I know… an angel! Now, don’t laugh y’all! Don’t laugh. You know that’s not polite!
