David Lee Roth on … Outfits and Hair

No really, it is David Lee Roth on outfits and hair in this, his latest video where he narrates a review of his own outfits worn in his solo-era videos.  David is humorous, often at his own expense, yet acknowledging his own celebrity, giving mocking, but affectionate details and views of his colorful and outrageous rock star looks of the ’80s, all while showing them for what they were, outrageous rock star looks!  He is likeable to the point of making us feel like we are right there in his living room.  Never do we see now-David, we just hear him, in my view adding to the emphasis on the fashion.  It’s almost like a short story, melding an old interview throughout, along with little hints into what David likes in women, the underlying theme that he knows made him an object of envy, all while making it sound like it was really all about the … outfits.

A prior Roth Show episode (that I’m too lazy to find it) touched on outfits, even using the same line where he jokes he started 80’s rock star fashions.  Back then, I wanted an episode about outfits; I got my wish!  But this is not a rehash of that episode.  This is full-blown outfits-talk, literally a half-hour devoted to outfits.  Oh and he directly mentions that certain aspect that rock star pants really show, and outdoes that with his talk of his imaginary friend with benefits, the object of his dance moves, all in ways that made me believe he knew we were going to laugh!  But laughter, something I think he does in overdoses in other current-era interviews, is not here.  And sorry folks, this episode is solely a look at past fashions, no Van Halen talk, no talk about current music.  Indeed, the only talk of his current fashion is his lamentation that boots don’t come with the same sole as his sparkly dance shoes.  I wonder if he knows there are dance boots?

So, unabashedly, I decree this Roth Show episode my very favorite yet!  And to all who think fluffy-talk about outfits or hair or … you know in the outfits is not rock ‘n’ roll, he uses that most-favorite of all my expressions that I’m going to adopt in my response…. no way you fucking fuck.  Just as I’ve been saying for forever, outfits and hair and all things fluffy are the epitome of rock ‘n’ roll!  Just ask David Lee Roth.  Now, if he would only add XOXO!  Bitches!
