While driving to work three days ago, I heard this story, a mix of rock and sports, although baseball, not football. Allegedly, the Chicago Cubs are tripping up in the infield (“bad hops” was the term mentioned) because of divets in the grass following the ACDC concert there. The quote by Chicago Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon — “since the AC/DC concert we’ve had a little bit of trouble;” “I don’t know if they [the band] were out there taking ground balls in 9-inch heels”– shows he doesn’t know that the field would actually be filled with fans.
I sometimes wonder how arenas go from hockey to basketball to concert and back again without the events seeming to hurt the venue. But perhaps that doesn’t apply to a stadium; perhaps it’s not so good to have a stadium show. My solution? More dates in small places! I’m starting a petition! Perhaps Chicago Cubs Joe Maddon will help me.
