Mar 29, 2016 – A paradox is a fun thing, especially thinking that rock ‘n’ roll goes with one of those girlie-girl tv shows I have a habit of getting hooked on. Before there was Gossip Girl (RIP to all its fabulousness and the influence of my name), there was Gilmore Girls, a show about a grown up teen mom from the right side of the tracks raising her teen daughter in small-town USA to pretty much go back to the right side of the tracks. The show featured their relationship and the relationships of their friends and love interests. Okay, pretty boring for this audience; however, the friend of the daughter — raised to be really straight laced, in that Asian kind of way, had this hidden side where she liked rock music. Sometime along the way, that character’s mother accepts her, and if I remember right, managed her once secret band Hep Alien. Mind you, Gilmore Girls is a veritable oldie now, ending before Gossip Girl started, and that one ended a few years ago. Sure I could look up these dates, but does it really matter? Gossip Girl hasn’t been on … in a long while, so that makes Gilmore Girls … ancient.
So why do I mention it? Because of Sebastian Bach. Apparently Sebastian Bach is about to do a tour of small venues. I remembered him having a recent solo album, but it turns out that release was 2014, or so it seems, perhaps forgotten because 2015 was such a blur for me. To me, Bach’s new songs are more Metallica than Skid Row, but his singing was strong, so perhaps his 2016 tour could be fun. I thought I would listen to his recent work, but in my search, I came upon news about him. Sure the news has more news of rock relevancy, like him saying he wants to perhaps, maybe, if they want to, do a record with Skid Row. I could say all these guys are coming out of the woodwork for new records, but that’s too easy. What really interested me was that there is to be a Netflix-produced re-boot of Gilmore Girls, not a tv series per se, but four ninety minute movies, titled after the four seasons. And Sebasitan Bach will be in the cast. In Gilmore Girls? What did you way, Whispergirl? Yep, in Gilmore Girls. In the original tv series, Sebastian was a well-loved character, playing in that Asian character’s band Hep Alien. And he’s coming back! You just have to love it, girlie girls and rock stars, the conflicting paradox of apparent mis-matchy-matchy-ness that they seem . . . . They match!
