Happy Labor Day

September 2, 2017 — You have three more days. For what, you ask? To wear white, of course. On a serious note though, the very name “Labor Day”, or for my non-American spellers “Labour Day”, has a nice meaning and history: a day to honor people who labor. I thought about putting up a photo of a “laborer”, but what that means in this day and age is something to do with a computer. So there you go, a keyboard with fingers, a twenty-first century laborer, well unless your keyboard is a plane console, and then, I suppose that’s electronic too.

As for the meaning of the holiday, I don’t think there are many celebrations to honor labor, at least not any more, but still, power to the people is a nice thought. So I think I’ll honor the Internet, the means of our communication with each other sitting at these keyboards, and in a way, the modern version of people exercising ordinary power. And words for thought, much like the protections of labor, and the tagline of my browser window this morning: “no person, government or corporation should control the web”. Hopefully, it always stays that way, as the inventors who created it intended it — one thing that’s free, the most “power to the people” thing I can think of in modern times. Do you think, one day, we’ll say “Happy Internet Day”? Who knows? Until then…

Happy Labor Day — weekend, all.

Here’s the football chart. Everyone, please play. And pleeease let me know if I got this wrong. Y’all know I don’t know the cities as compared to the mascots, and everything lists the cities, so it took me a bit to get it translated to the mascot names so I can understand it. I am still a football dummy, but this is fun! So, everyone, please play! Lurkers welcome too.

Remember, choose the team names in a list, and I’ll compile them. We count number of wins per week. Also, throw in the Superbowl pic just in case of a tie.

Here’s a song I heard this week, on the alternative rock channel this time, a new music find of theirs. It seems to cross sounds. I like songs that aren’t genre specific, so it is kind of fun.
